VERNON, NY - The New Utica-Rome Speedway will be closed this coming Sunday September 10. However, it will reopen Sunday September 17, with a special high paying show for the DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, Slingshots, and ELS Sprint Cars. Race time is set for 5pm.

The ELS Sprint Cars will be making their final appearance of the 2000 season at Utica-Rome. Earlier this year, George Suprick and Mike Lauterborn took home the wins in the first two ELS races. The earth will shake as the alcohol powered cars of John Lieto, Brian Dumigan, Rick Hart, Justin Barger, John Karklin Jr., and Doug Emery try to take home the big 20-lap win to end the 2000 ELS season.

The winner of the Sportsman feature will pocket a cool $850, the Pro Stock winner will receive $600, and the Pure Stock victor will win $400, and the features will be "Mr." title races for each division.

The rained out Pure Stock feature from September 3 will be run as the first program on the evening, and it will be the final point show for the Pure Stocks.

The gates on Sunday September 17 will open at a special time of 2pm, with racing beginning promptly at 5pm. The New Utica-Rome Speedway is a Sunday family tradition in the Mohawk Valley, and you can be a part of it as the racing season winds down for 2000. The speedway is located just 20 minutes west of Utica on Route 5 in Vernon, and it is easily accessible from NYS Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.

For more information, contact the speedway office at (315) 829-4557 or visit the official internet website at www.newuticaromespeedway.com.
