Moran Wins First Race of Ohio Speedweek Series

ZANESVILLE, Ohio (July 6, 2004) -- Donnie Moran got off to a great start in the GNC Live Well Stores Ohio Speedweek series when he won the Y-City 50 Stacker 2 Xtreme DirtCar Series race at Muskingum Speedway.

Moran led the final top laps of the kickoff race in what is quickly becoming one of the top events in all of late model dirt stock car racing. The event is co-sanctioned by the Stacker 2 series and the Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Xtreme organization and Moran heaped praise on the tires he used at Muskingum.

"The Goodyear Eagles, what can you say?" Moran asked after the race. "They' re great!! Fifty hard laps and they're ready for another night of racing."

The Y-City 50 drew a field of 49 cars and had 26 starters on the 3/8-mile Muskingum oval. Moran started fifth and did not lead until the final 10 laps.

Earl Pearson Jr. took second in the race, followed by Davey Johnson, Doug Dodd and Jimmy Mars.

Dodd won the Gemini Car Care Centers Hard Charger Award by gaining the most positions (11) during the race. Shane Clanton posted the fastest time in qualifying with a lap of 16.336 seconds.

Mars continues to lead the Stacker 2 Series standings with 2,301 points. Pearson is next with 2,226. Moran leads the Northern Series drivers with 1,582 points. Matt Miller is second with 1,365.

The remaining races in the GNC Live Well Stores Ohio Speedweek event are scheduled for Wayne County Speedway (July 6), Attica Raceway Park (July 7) and K-C Raceway (July 10).
