Spa TCR: Vernay beats teammate Comini to claim first win

After a disastrous Friday race for Vernay and Comini, the former getting a penalty and the latter retiring even before the start, things were back on track for Leopard Racing as the team locked out the podium.

Leopard's guest entrant Antti Buri, running in a plain white VW Golf, was the poleman for the race, but surrendered the lead to Vernay into Turn 1 - and was then passed by Comini a lap later.

Comini then set out for the race lead and overtook his French teammate on the Kemmel straight - but Vernay responded with the same move a lap later.

And that proved sufficient for the former Indy Lights champion to claim his first win in the series, as he comfortably headed Comini home.

Buri completed the podium, ahead of Mat'o Homola and Friday winner Aku Pellinen.

Gianni Morbidelli, who entered the race as the points leader, retired on the opening lap, losing a wheel after contact with Dusan Borkovic.

As such, Morbidelli gave up first place in the standings to Pepe Oriola, who in the race was held off by teammate James Nash in the fight for sixth.

Another Craft-Bamboo Lukoil driver Sergey Afanasyev was in the mix with Nash and Oriola for most of the race, but eventually slipped behind Kevin Gleason after running wide.

The top 10 was completed by local driver Pierre-Yves Corthals.
