The Indian driver finished eighth in the lone practice on Friday at the Shanghai International circuit in his first run on the Formula 1 track.
In qualifying, Reddy was second in Q1 and was due to start ninth in Race 2 as per the top 10 reverse grid formation. While in Q2, the Indian ace qualified third in his Polo GTI car.
Penalty in Race 1
Starting third in his first ever international race, Reddy got a bad getaway dropping to 15th on the opening lap.
The Indian recovered to finish fourth after some close wheel to wheel battles but was penalised post-race for cutting a chicane, dropping him to sixth.
"Race 1 was a real disappointment as I could have fought for the win," said Reddy to Motorsport.com.
Maiden podium
After the pace shown in the first race, Reddy was confident of a better result in Race 2 on Sunday, starting ninth.
The Hyderabad-based driver had a better start this time to move up three places to sixth by the end of the opening lap.
He was up to third by the second lap and on Lap 4 Reddy was leading the race. He was soon involved in a three-way fight to maintain his race lead.
With three corners to go, Reddy was on his way to a maiden win but was overtaken by the two drivers behind on the long straight, as the Indian dropped to third.
In the end, Reddy was promoted to second after the driver ahead bounced off the track and was penalised, thereby registering his maiden international podium.
"Overall a good weekend, lots of fun and bumper to bumper racing," the Indian summing up his maiden international venture.
