Las Vegas, Nevada - Cinjo Racing has officially entered the 2001 SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series.

Joe Tranchida formed Cinjo Racing Incorporated, based in Clinton Township, Mich., in the summer of 2000, with the goal of competing in the 2001 Trans-Am Series. "I have been competing in the SCCA GT-1 series with my own car, and I have always wanted to own a professional racing team," said Tranchida. "I teamed up with Steve Veeder this summer to get things going, and we decided together that our first choice for a driver should be Tommy Archer."

The team will take advantage of the SCCA's new body incentives and campaign a 2001 Dodge Viper carrying the number 36. The Cinjo Racing/Dodge Viper will be driven by American Le Mans Series, Viper Team Oreca standout, Tommy Archer of Duluth, Minn. "Tommy was a natural choice for us. Not only has he helped develop the racing version of the Viper, but he has won in the Trans-Am Series," explained Tranchida.

Archer is returning to the series where he last competed in 1994. Creating an impressive Trans-Am record in 1992, he finished third in the driver points standings. Archer has 36 starts and won races in Detroit and Lime Rock. With 16 top five finishes, he's amassed over $200,000 in winnings.

Archer is excited to be back, "Joe and Steve are putting together a first-class operation. The Trans-Am series, with the help of Don Panoz, has a great plan for the future. The purses are bigger, and this is attracting quality teams. I am looking forward to the drop of the flag in Sebring in 2001," said Archer.

Soon after forming the team, Tranchida hired Steven Veeder as general manager. Veeder's 30+ years of racing experience include working with teams in Trans-Am, World Challenge, NASCAR and CART. "The commitment from Joe is that we're here to succeed. It is not often that the right elements come together. I believe we've formed a program that can compete right from the drop of the flag of the first race. Tommy and I were together when he and brother Bobby had a team in the series in the early '90s," Veeder commented.
