Denver: Boris Said race report

Denver, Colorado (August 31, 2003) -- Boris Said dominated the 2002 Trans-Am Series race in the Grand Prix of Denver, this year, he couldn't find an opening to pass the leader, Scott Pruett, in the MotoRock Mile High 100. Said, starting second on the front row, stayed on the tail of Pruett the entire one hour and fifteen minute timed race on the 1.647 mile temporary street course. Said, who was ready to pounce if an opportunity opened up, raced full-out from start to finish over the 59 laps but never had the chance to overtake. While putting on a good show for the fans, Said settled for second place, the fourth podium in as many starts in 2003. This second place finish, moved the driver of the #33 Applied Computer Solutions/Sun Microsystems/GE Access Ford Mustang up to ninth in the Driver's Points from twelfth. The second place finish continues his streak of fifteen podium appearances in sixteen starts.

"I gave a Hail Mary at the end and fumbled" quoted Boris Said. "It was a good run. I was willing to wreck the car if I had to to win. I drove hard and tried to get a fender on (Pruett) the whole time and couldn't get on top of him. If I could, he would have wagged and that was all I needed."

"This is the last Trans-Am Series race I will run this season and I wanted to win bad. I wasn't trying to save the tires. I went all-out and the car was still okay at the end. This is a hard track to pass, especially since we were running so close. He was faster on the straights. I just couldn't catch him. We were turning fast laps in the twelves at the end but it wasn' t enough. I don't like being first loser."
