Hayner looks to take back Denver
Detroit -- Aug 25, 2003 -- When the 2003 Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup championship returns for this year's Grand Prix of Denver, Round 9, part of the Centrix Financial Grand Prix of Denver weekend, Stu Hayner will be looking to settle a past debt. In 2002, Hayner, driver of the #2 GMAC Commercial Finance / Trenton Forging Corvette set the bar for the weekend turning the fastest qualifying time and the fastest lap of the race.
"We literally owned this town last year," said Hayner. "We had the speed, we had the handling-- we had it all. Unfortunately, we were put back to sixth on the grid for a non-technical ruling and had to fight our way back to third."
"I'm optimistic we can pick up were we left off," Hayner continued. "This track owes me one. Last year, we were so fast here. I liked the varying surface of the track...it was challenging and we had it figured out. It was a fun track."
"We're going to be on a mission here this year," Hayner added. "I'm really confident we'll be able to nail the set-up here and bring one home for GMAC Commercial Finance, Trenton Forging and Revloution Motorsports. We are long overdue."
For Hayner's teammate, Bobby Sak, this will be his first appearance on the streets of Denver.
"I'm not sure what to expect here," said Sak, who drives the No. 10 Revolution Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette. "I like street courses, but they haven't been really good to me. I'm going to be picking (teammate) Hayner's brain, that's for sure. He ran extremely well at Denver. He had the fastest car all weekend long. I guess I'll have to buy him dinner to find out his secret. It's a great town and a great event. I think we'll have something for the Jags here."
Revolution Motorsports in association with Trenton Forging competes as part of the Trans-Am Series for the BF Goodrich Tires Cup. All events are nationally televised on SPEED. The Trans-Am Series is the oldest form of American sports car racing.
