Kerry Alexander San Diego notes

San Diego, CA - The final round of the BFGoodrich Trans-Am Championship for 2000. Kerry Alexander and the LAC Motorsports Camaro saw the end of the season come early in San Diego with a spectacular crash.

Alexander qualified 18th in the 34 car grid. At the start of the race, Alexander quickly moved to 13th position. While attempting to pass the 12th place car of Lou Gigliotti, Alexander encountered a piece of debris on the racetrack, which resulted in a cut brake line and a spectacular crash. Alexander was unhurt in the ensuing melee, but the Wickes Lumber/Trilithic Engineering Camaro was heavily damaged.

"We sure have had some freak things happen to us this year" said Alexander. This is our first full season of Trans-Am and we sure have had our share of unfortunate luck. The last two races we have had a great car only to retire early. Once again, I had a much faster car than our qualifying spot would lead you to believe. I was quite a bit faster than Lou and he was making his Corvette awfully wide. When I entered turn 4 and hit the brake, the pedal went straight to the floor. I knew it was going to be a hard hit so I spun the car to scrub off some speed."

Alexander and the LAC Motorsports crew are wasting no time in preparing for the 2000 season. The crew is scheduled to test in Texas on the 11th in preparation for the 2001 season.

Alexander was quick to thank his crew and sponsors for all of their support in 2000. "We really had a good year this year. Wickes Lumber and Trilithic have been excellent sponsors and we look forward to continuing our relationship with these fine people. We will be making several major announcements in the next few weeks regarding our 2001 program. I can't wait for Sebring!"
