SCCA TRANS-AM RACING WITH AUTOCON MOTORSPORTS

The SCCA Trans-Am is America's longest running road-racing championship. The series features purpose built tube-frame race cars with carburated 5.0 liter V-8's. Past participants in the series have included Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones, Peter Revson, Mark Donohue, and more recent champions like Scott Pruett, Dorsey Schroeder and Tommy Kendall.

Michael Lewis and AutoCon Motorsports entered the series full-time in 1997 and placed tenth overall, and was runner-up for Rookie-of-the-Year Honors. In 1998 Michael improved to finish ninth overall, scoring his first pole position and first podium finishes. In 1999 he finished fourth overall after having led the points chase mid-season. The team also expanded to running a second car in both 1998 & 1999, securing top-ten overall positions for these cars as well.

Michael Lewis is the owner and President of Automation Technologies in San Diego, California. Automation Technologies is a factory automation company serving a variety of corporate customers, including many in the automotive and bio-mechanical fields. Mike holds an AS degree in Aerospace Engineering and is an SAE Member.

AutoCon Crew Chief David Steele, who has won numerous awards from the SCCA, will assist with the presentation and Q&A.

Come to the November meeting and find out just what it takes to engineer a 625hp road racer and how the AutoCon team plans to improve their performance in 2000.

Michael's presentation will include: o an overview of Trans-Am racing, o technical review - the AutoCon Mustang chassis, o technical review - Lozano Brothers' 5.0L Ford V-8, o the role of data acquisition, o and plans for the 2000 season

Both of the AutoCon Motorsports cars will be at the meeting. Since arrangements for seating and food must be made in advance, please reserve by Monday night (11/8/99) or we will not be able to accommodate you. Reservations: Call the SAE 24 Hr.
