Baucom Finishes 2005 Season with another Top-Five Finish at Montreal

Matthews, North Carolina -- John Baucom raced the #86 EZeCom.com eCommerce Software / Software Toolbox Mustang to his fifth top-five finish at the Molson Indy Montreal. "Our goal this year was to be more competitive and consistent," said driver John Baucom. The Baucom Motorsports team did exactly that in the 2005 season by earning five top-five finishes in the six races entered. Additionally, the Baucom Motorsports team scored its first podium with a second place finish in Cleveland.

Showcasing the Software Toolbox sponsorship, Baucom maintained his position in the top four during the first half of the race, consistently within two seconds of the race leader. "We qualified well and were very fast at the beginning," said Crew Chief Allen Culpepper. "Unfortunately, our brakes started to fade badly, losing the pedal nearly to the floor, and we could not maintain our lap times as the race drew to its conclusion. However, we are thrilled with another top-five finish." "The tremendous improvements in 2005 are apparent when you look at our average finishing position," explained Chassis Engineer Doug Roberts referring to the fact that only four drivers had a better average points-per-race than Baucom.

Looking towards 2006, the Baucom Motorsports team plans to return to Trans-Am competition, aiming at running the full schedule. "Our off-season work will focus on two areas, upgrading the brake system and continuing our development work on the Ford modular V-8 4-valve motor. With some help from the Trans-Am rule committee, we hope to debut the Ford Modular V-8 next year," said Baucom.

"I want to say a special thank you to our marketing sponsors during the 2005 season: EZeCom.com eCommerce Software, Software Toolbox, MAP Quality Engineering, Sportscar Authority, Diecast Registry, Delta Chelsea Hotels, and The Strand Restaurant," said Baucom. "We look forward to continuing our relationship in 2006."

The Molson Indy Montreal Grand Prix will be televised (tape-delay) on SPEED Channel on Sunday September 18th at 1:00 pm EDT.
