ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (Sept. 19, 2009) -- After skipping the last two Muscle Milk SCCA Trans-Am Series races following his win at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Jorge Diaz Jr., of San Juan, PR, proved he hasn't skipped a beat when it comes to speed, as he led the 24-car field in practice for Sunday's season finale at Elkhart Lake's Road America.

Driving the No. 2 JD Racing Jaguar XKR, Diaz turned a blistering 2:05.005 (116.577 mph) around the 14-turn, four mile circuit. The lap is more than three seconds faster than the existing track qualifying record of 2:08.143, set by Johnny Miller IV in 2003.

After pacing the morning session, Tony Ave, of Maiden, N.C., improved in the afternoon, but dropped to second on the day in his No. 10 McMahon Group Chevrolet Corvette with a fastest time of 2:06.372 (115.316 mph).

This year's Trans-Am Series Champion, Tomy Drissi, of Los Angeles, Calif., was third fastest on the day in the No. 5 Avatar Jaguar XKR with a time of 2:06.731 (114.990 mph).

R.J. Lopez, of Santa Domingo, DR, was fourth fastest in the No. 06 WabashPower.com/Mobil1/Goodyear Chevrolet Corvette, turning a fastest time of 2:07.895 (113.943 mph). Daniel Ramoutarsingh, of Trinidad, was fifth in his No. 8 Trinrico Steel & Wire Products Jaguar XKR with a 2:09.317 (112.690 mph).
