Series announces 2011 final schedule

Trans-Am Series Finalizes Nine Race Schedule For 2011

TOPEKA, Kan. (January 10, 2010) -- SCCA Pro Racing today confirmed three additional races on the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series calendar, completing the nine-race schedule for the upcoming season.

A Labor Day Weekend doubleheader at Brainerd International Raceway, Sept. 2-4, and the season finale at Road Atlanta as part of the Petit LeMans event, Sept. 28 -- Oct. 1, cap the schedule and will end the season.

The final events join a full line-up of premier events already announced, including the opener at Sebring International Raceway (March 17 - 19) in Sebring, Fla.; Miller Motorsports Park (April 30-May 1) in Tooele, Utah; VIRginia International Raceway (May 13-15) in Alton, Va.; Mosport International Raceway (May 20 - 22) in Bowmanville, Ontario; the street race in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada (August 5-7); and Road America (August 19 - 21) in Elkhart Lake, Wis.

"With the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am schedule, we accomplished our goal of putting together a schedule that combined headlining events, like the races in Trois-Rivieres or Brainerd, with some of the top road racing events in the country in the Sebring and Petit LeMans weekends," Bob Wildberger, SCCA Pro Racing President and CEO, said. "While our initial plans were to run 10 races in 2011, we elected to finalize the schedule at nine strong races rather than add an event just to reach a predetermined number."

The Trans-Am Series headlines two weekends in 2011, shares three weekends with the American Le Mans Series, two weekends with World Challenge, and a weekend with the Grand-Am Rolex Series.

The upcoming season will not only include the traditional ground-pounding Trans-Am machines, but also the new-for-2011 Trans-Am 2 (TA2) and Trans-Am 3 (TA3) classes. All three classes will race together for the 2011 season for separate championship titles, with Trans-Am drivers chasing defending Series Champion Tony Ave.
