Trans-Am Series Announces Additional Schedule Dates, Marketing Plans for 2011

TOPEKA, Kan. (Dec. 9, 2010) -- SCCA Pro Racing today confirmed three additional dates on the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series schedule, along with tentative plans for the series' television package.

At the Performance Racing Industry Show in Orlando, Fla., series officials announced races at Miller Motorsports Park (April 30-May 1) in Tooele, Utah, VIRginia International Raceway (May 13-15) in Alton, Va., and the street race in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada (August 5-7).

Those three dates join previously announced races, including the opener at Sebring International Raceway (March 17 - 19) in Sebring, Fla.; Mosport International Raceway (May 20 - 22) in Bowmanville, Ontario; and Road America (August 19 - 21) in Elkhart Lake, Wis.

The remaining events on the projected 10-race schedule will be announced soon.

"We previously announced a fabulous opener at Sebring, and the races we continue to add back up that event with a schedule that's just as great," Bob Wildberger, SCCA Pro Racing President/CEO, said. "We're finalizing our remaining four races, but those events will also fit the profile of the six that have already been announced."

Also unveiled today was a partnership with Rick Benjamin and Carolina Productions Company. Select Trans-Am Series events will be televised in 2011, tape delayed on syndicated television.

Benjamin will provide the play-by-play for the television broadcast, with a color commentator and pit reporter named later. Benjamin has been involved with the Trans-Am Series as a broadcaster since the late 1980s.

"I've got a long history with Trans-Am going back to broadcasting my first race in 1989, at Texas World Speedway," Benjamin said. "I can't tell you how much Trans-Am means to me, and to get the chance to help take Trans-Am back to where it should be in the American motorsports landscape is a great honor."

The 2011 season will not only include the traditional ground-pounding Trans-Am machines, but also the recently announced Trans-Am 2 (TA2) and Trans-Am 3 (TA3) classes. All three classes will race together for the 2011 season for separate championship titles, with Trans-Am drivers chasing defending Series Champion Tony Ave.
