Toronto: Final practice notes

PAUL GENTILOZZI COMPLETES SWEEP OF TRANS-AM TORONTO PRACTICES

TORONTO, Ontario (July 9, 2005) -- Paul Gentilozzi completed the sweep of Trans-Am practice sessions by setting the fastest time this morning in the 15-minute warm-up session for today's Trans-Am in T.O. at the Molson Indy Toronto. Gentilozzi (No. 1 Jaguar R Performance XKR) turned a 1:13.153-minute lap (85.553 miles per hour) to nab the top berth.

Gentilozzi, who qualified fifth yesterday and will start first today due to Trans-Am's Fast Five® qualifying invert, will attempt to win his first race in Toronto this afternoon. If he accomplishes that feat, he will also break the win record of the late Mark Donohue with his 40th Series victory.

Greg Pickett (No. 6 Cytomax Jaguar XKR) was second fastest, while Gentilozzi's teammate, Klaus Graf, was third fastest in the No. 7 Jaguar R Performance XKR, ahead of Tomy Drissi (No. 5 Supercross -- The Movie Jaguar XKR). Points leader Randy Ruhlman (No. 49 Preformed Line Products Canada Chevrolet Corvette) completed the top five.

The Trans-Am in T.O., Round 4 of the 2005 Trans-Am Championship and part of the Molson Indy Toronto, is scheduled for this afternoon at 3 p.m. Today's race will air on a tape-delayed basis, Sunday, July 17 at 12:30 p.m. EDT on SPEED Channel.

TRAINING FOR TOMORROW--Gord Vipond is carrying sponsorship this weekend from Centennial College, the area's largest vocational school. He is working with the faculty there on a new motorsports training curriculum that will help train students interested in learning what it takes to work on race cars, with the hopes of making them better automobile technicians.
