Bad Luck in Iowa Keeps East Out of Victory Lane

Brownsburg, Ind. (May 25, 2010) -- If it wasn't for bad luck, Bobby East wouldn't have had any at all in the Casey's General Stores Triple Crown of Iowa at the 0.875-mile Iowa Speedway.

East qualified on the pole for the USAC K&N Filters Silver Crown 100-lap feature and led the first two laps before mechanical problems struck sending Klatt Enterprises No. 6 Ford Racing Technology/Beast Chassis/ClubSport Esslinger/Ford-powered Beast behind the wall early and leaving East 18th at the finish.

East finished fourth in the USAC National Midget Series feature, but was forced to charge from 20th starting position after an uncharacteristically slow lap in qualifying. East also finished eighth in the 50-lap USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series feature.

"I thought we had a great chance to win the Silver Crown race and the Midget race if we had a little bit of luck," East said. "The Silver Crown car was really fast, we were almost a quarter-second quicker than anyone else in qualifying. But we had a mechanical problem that ended up putting us out of the race early. That doesn't happen too often to this team but it jumped up and bit us there in Iowa. The Midget was really good too, but we had to come from so far back in the field. It's tough to come from 20th in just 25 laps but we got as close to the front as we could in a short amount of time. If we started up towards the front I really think we had a great chance to win there too."

East returns to action in both the K&N Filters Silver Crown Series and the National Midget Series for a pair of traditional events leading up to the Indianapolis 500. The Silver Crown Series is in action in the Hoosier Hundred on Friday May 28 on the one-mile dirt track at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The following night East and the No. 4 Ford Racing Technology/Beast Chassis/ClubSport Esslinger/Ford-powered Midget are in action at O'Reilly Raceway Park in the 65th Annual "Night Before the 500."
