J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. enters this weekend USAC National Sprint Car competition at Gas City and Lawrenceburg, Ind. with a 70-point series lead over Tracy Hines and 79 ahead of third-ranking Bud Kaeding as a result of his victory in Sunday night's 30-lapper at Rossburg, Ohio.
Yeley was relegated to his "backup" car after breaking a drive line in a push-off at the Eldora Speedway, but came back to lead all 30 laps in his Tony Stewart Racing Twister/Mopar to extend his lead in the series points. He was trailed to the checkered flag by Hines, Kaeding, Boston Reid and Road to Indy fast qualifier Jay Drake.
Yeley finished second in Wednesday night's "USAC 50" at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway, won by Brian Tyler of Parma, Mich. Tyler led wire-to-wire in the 50-lap race in his DuPont Automotive/LVS Solutions Brand X/Foxco to beat Yeley, Kaeding, Drake and Cory Kruseman. Hines was the Road to Indy fast qualifier at Anderson.
