JONES FASTEST IN FRIDAY'S DOUBLE SESSION
HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Twelve-time Silver Crown Series presented by K&N Engineering starter P.J. Jones scored a best 171.401 mph (31.190 seconds) during Friday's second session, the fastest in the series' three practice days at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Jones's fast lap came on his 13th of the second session and was less than a tenth of a second fastest than that of Wayne Reutimann Jr. and his fast lap of 170.892 mph (31.283 seconds), the second quickest lap of the day.
"Our car's good; we've just got to get it freed up a little bit more," Jones said. "We ran full tanks this morning to see what we had. This afternoon we tried to run quick. I felt we could run in the 30-second bracket, but we were a little bit too tight, and we wanted to conserve our tires for tomorrow."
Bud Kaeding was the leader in the afternoon's first session, clocking in at 170.309 mph (31.390 seconds). A final practice session is scheduled for tomorrow prior to qualifying and the 67-lap, 100-mile race.
Thiago Medeiros spun near the end of the second session and hit the outside wall with the right side of his car. The status of the car was not available as of Friday evening.
