RICHMOND NEXT FOR USAC'S SILVER CROWN CARS; HOLLINGSWORTH GETS VICTORY #1 IN FRIDAY'S "HOOSIER 100"
Two-time USAC K & N Silver Crown Champion Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Calif. will lead the series to Richmond (Va.) International Raceway June 26-27 after finishing fourth in last Friday night's "Hoosier Hundred" at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. Kaeding holds a 24-point lead over Tracy Hines in the latest series standings.
Shane Hollingsworth of Indianapolis, Ind. scored the first victory of his USAC K & N Silver Crown career in Friday's "Hoosier Hundred" at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. Hollingsworth won the pole at 112.665 mph. and led every lap around the mile dirt oval despite repeated challenges from 2008 series champion Jerry Coons Jr. Coons finally blew a tire one lap from the finish and eventually finished 11th.
The victory was particularly sweet for the Nolen Racing team, whose race car and hauler were stolen from their Oklahoma motel on the way to the 2009 series opener in Phoenix, Ariz. in February. Hollingsworth's win was worth $10,000.
Three-time race winner Dave Darland emerged with second place at the checkered flag, ahead of Shane Hmiel, Kaeding and Russ Gamester.
Drivers Kody Swanson and Randy Bateman escaped injury in a "double-flip" on lap 10 of Friday's race.
