Tough luck at IRP

Indianapolis, Ind. -- August 6, 2004 -- The R.E. Technologies Racing survived a difficult day that saw Carl Edwards walk away from a wreck and Boston Reid recover from another incident to score a top 20 finish at Indianapolis Raceway Park Thursday night.

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Star, Carl Edwards was forced to run the qualifying race after engine troubles hampered his qualifying attempt. The Missouri native took the green flag and entered turn one on the high side. Another car under him got loose made contact with Edwards, sending him into the fence.

"We touched wheels and hopped his right rear with our left front," said Edwards. "I feel real bad for all of the guys that put a lot of hard work into it. I think that we really had a good car so it is very frustrating."

Boston Reid qualified and started in 15th position. About 16 laps into the feature, a car on the low side of Reid in turn one made contact with the No. 35 sending him spinning.

"We spun but fortunately, we didn't hit anything," said Reid. "The car was never the same."

The team again stood up and looked adversity in the eye. Reid was forced to start from the back of the field but drove the Curb Records Silver Crown™ car to a 18th place finish. Jay Drake won the race.

"We passed several guys but it is real disappointing," stated Reid "The R.E. Technologies guys deserve better. I know that we would have finished in the top ten if we would have had a caution in the beginning. Our pavement package is getting better and better every time. We just wish we could have had a better night."

The team is looking forward to the upcoming dirt races on the schedule as a way to move back up in the points.

"This team excels on the dirt," said Reid. "Our dirt package is one of the best. We will get back in these cars and score some good runs on the dirt."

NEXT RACE

The USAC Silver Crown Series heads to the Illinois State Fairgrounds on August 21st for the third dirt race of the season. The R.E. Technologies Racing team recorded their first podium finish of the season last year at the Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill.

EDWARDS 5th AT IRP TRUCK RACE

Carl Edwards drove his No. 99 Roush Racing Superchips Ford to a 5th place finish at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at IRP Friday night. With the top five finish, Edwards sits third in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series standings.
