Jack Hewitt of Troy, Ohio, who suffered neck injuries in a USAC Sprint Car accident July 22 at North Vernon, Ind., remains in "Serious but Stable" condition in the Critical Care Unit of Indianapolis' Methodist Hospital following neck surgery Friday afternoon.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. John Dietz performed the five-hour surgery, which was termed a success, meeting all objectives.

Jack now enters a 24-48 hour period of evaluation and testing to determine the results of the surgery, but doctors are optimistic regarding his recovery.

The Hewitt family wishes to thank the racing fraternity for their continued prayers and well wishes.

Although flowers and balloons are not permitted in the Critical Care Unit, cards and letters can be sent to Jack and Jody Hewitt at Methodist Hospital, I-65 & 21st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46206.
