Memphis Native Sammy Swindell To Run Big M Motorfest

Memphis, TN -- April 28, 2004 -- Sprint car legend and Memphis native Sammy Swindell is scheduled to run both the 410 Wingless Challenge May 7th and the Memphis USAC 100 May 8th at Big M Motorfest presented by Brim's Snack Foods at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Swindell will pilot the 12x Beaver Drill and Tool sprint car on the dirt Friday night and drive the #191 "Spirit of Knoxville" Silver Crown car for the Hemelgarn 91 Johnson/ R.E. Technologies Racing team on Saturday.

With his race shop nestled in Bartlett, Tennessee, the event will be a homecoming for Swindell and his fans.

"We are expecting a lot of people that I haven't seen in a long time," said Swindell. "It is always good to get back home and see some of the people that we don't ever get to see. I expect it to be like a family reunion out there."

The three-time World of Outlaws Champion last visit to the Memphis Motorsports Park was in the early 1990's. Back then the current paved oval facility was the dirt track. The 410 Wingless Challenge will also mark the first time in a while that the four time Chili Bowl Champion has driven a non-wing sprint car.

Swindell won the inaugural preliminary and feature events for the O'Reilly Sprint Bandit Series at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Texas earlier this year. He will be eligible for the $5,000 bounty offered to any non-USAC driver that can win the 410 Wingless Challenge.

"If we can win the extra $5,000 bonus, that could make it a big weekend for me," smiled Swindell.

Swindell's weekend could get even better by wining Friday night, then again on Saturday afternoon during the Silver Crown race and claiming a $50,000 bonus.

Sammy Swindell's #1 Channellock winged sprint car will be on display on Saturday. Fans will also have an opportunity to purchase Sammy Swindell merchandise.

"We normally only have a booth a couple of times a year," said Swindell. "It will be really nice to have it here for our fans at home."

The Big M Motorfest at Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington, Tennessee features the 410 Wingless Challenge on Friday night May 7th, the Southern Rides AutoFest Saturday morning May 8th and the Memphis USAC 100 Saturday afternoon May 8th. Tickets are going fast. For tickets or more information call 1-800-868-8406 or log onto www.bigmmotorfest.com. Click on news for the latest news and information about the event.
