Series Indiana Sprint Week update 2010-07-12

TERRE HAUTE, BROWNSTOWN, BLOOMINGTON, HAUBSTADT HOST FINAL 4 INDIANA SPRINT WEEK RACES; DARLAND, STANBROUGH, JONES TAKE OPENERS

Defending Indiana Sprint Week Champion Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. has jumped out to an early lead in the 2010 standings as a result of a win, a third and a fourth in the opening races. He takes a 32-point lead over Brady Short into Wednesday night's resumption of the seven-race series. Races at the Terre Haute Action Track (Wednesday), Brownstown Speedway (Thursday) and Bloomington Speedway (Friday) precede Saturday night's finale at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.

Wednesday night's race at Terre Haute will mark the debut of new track organizers Bob Sargent and the O'Connor family. Sargent has been the organizer of USAC's mile dirt-track Silver Crown races in recent years and the O'Connor family operates the Kokomo Speedway where Jones won Sunday night's 30-lap ISW feature.

Jones took the low road to get by Jerry Coons Jr. on a restart at lap 19 and led the final 12 laps at Kokomo to post his fourth career ISW win in the Tony Stewart Racing STP/Bass Pro Shops Maxim/Kistler Chevy. Short finished second ahead of Chris Windom, Shane Cottle and Coons. Windom led the first 10 laps of the feature, then Coons led for eight laps before yielding to Jones

Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind. scored a record 14th Indiana Sprint Week feature victory Friday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Darland took the lead when John Memmer blew an engine on lap 25 and Dave led the final six laps in his Pallet Builders/Reynolds Racing DRC/Claxton to beat Short, Bobby East, Jones and Damion Gardner. Memmer, seeking his first USAC National victory, led the first 24 laps before retiring from the race. Justin Grant was the night's fastest qualifier.

Jon Stanbrough of Avon, Ind. led all 30 laps from his pole starting position to take round two at Gas City I-69 Speedway. Stanbrough piloted the Jarvis Enterprises/Peterbuilt of Northwest Ohio DRC/Foxco to the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint car win over USAC/CRA point leader Mike Spencer, Jones, Tracy Hines and Scotty Weir. Bryan Clauson was the fastest qualifier.

Jones emerged from the three ISW openers as the AMSOIL National point leader by 77 over Gardner.
