SMRS MIDGETS CLOSE SEASON AT PONTOON BEACH OCT. 8-10; "BIG" VICTORIES FOR LOYET IN TEXAS, RAIN HALTS CREEK COUNTY

The 2009 USAC/SMRS Great Plains Midget Series will conclude its season with the Dupont "Gold Crown Midget Nationals" October 8-10 at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill, a USAC Mopar National Midget event.

They say everything in Texas is bigger and nothing could have been any bigger than Brad Loyet's back-to-back wins in the Lone Star State Friday and Saturday.

Loyet, of Sunset Hills, Mo., has stormed to a sizeable lead in the Great Plains standings after winning a 30-lap feature at Cowtown Speedway in Fort Worth Saturday night. Loyet and his Loyet Landscape Maintenance/Jaz-Tek Services Spike/Esslinger Ford outduelled Jonathan Beason for the victory, Loyet leading every lap despite pressure from Beason. Ryan Cole, Andrew Deal and Kevin Ramey trailed at the checkered flag.

Loyet also won Friday night, leading the final six laps to win the 20-lap feature at RPM Speedway in Crandall. Loyet took the lead from Deal on lap 15 and led the rest of the way to beat Jackie Burke, Deal, Evan Pardo and Will Pierce. Jackie Burke led the first lap, then Deal led the next 13 before yielding to Loyet.

Heavy rains forced cancellation of Thursday night's scheduled USAC/SMRS Great Plains Midget race at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.
