Tony Hunt of Fair Oaks, Calif. captured Saturday night's 50-lap USAC Western Sprint Car race at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway. The victory in the 32nd "Harvest Classic 150" event bolstered Hunt's second-place ranking, now trailing series point leader Michael Lewis by 96 points going into an October 4 race at Irwindale, Calif.
Hunt tracked down race leader Lonnie Adamson on lap eight and never looked back as he led the final 43 laps in his Western Speed & Fuel/Torco Oil Eagle/Chevy. Rick Hendrix finished second ahead of Jason McCord, Brad Bumgarner and Chad Nichols, while Adamson slipped to ninth after leading the first seven laps. The win was only the second this season for Hunt, whose previous victory came in July at Boise, Idaho.
Lewis finished seventh in the 50-lapper and continues to pursue his initial USAC racing championship. A 40-lap feature event tops the Irwindale program on October 4.
Brian McClish won Saturday night's "last chance" race.
