Adelaide: Kelly Racing race two report

TOUGH DAY FOR PERKINS AND WOOD IN ADELAIDE

Jack Perkins and Dale Wood have both had a tough day at the office in the second race of the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide today.

Perkins had a steering failure end his race on the first lap of the day as a result of contact with Marcus Marshall, resulting in the #11 Dodo Racing Holden Commodore making contact with the outside barrier in Turn 8.

Wood was on-track to repeat his effort from Saturday aboard the #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore by staying out of trouble and driving to a solid finish.

Wood, who finished 14th in his first Clipsal 500 race on Saturday, endured a sping exiting Turn 11 and made contact with the inside barrier. While the damage to the H-Tec Commodore was not major, it was enough to end the V8 Supercars rookie's day.

Jamie Whincup won today's his second-consecutive Clipsal 500 in Adelaide today ahead of team-mates Will Davison and Garth Tander. ??

The Dodo Commodore and H-Tec Oils Commodore will be back in action next weekend at the Australian F1 Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne for a non-championship event, where both drivers will seek to gain more experience in their new cars as part of the new Kelly Racing.

Jack Perkins - #11 Dodo Racing Holden Commodore

"Unfortunately a couple of the guys were racing fairly hard for the first lap of a 78-lap race," said Perkins.

"I got a really good start passed a couple of guys purely because I had some good speed.

"By the time I got to the Turn 5-6-7 section I was looking good until one of the guys passed me up the inside and gave me no room.

"Unfortunately (Marcus) Marshall was there as well and I sort of got squeezed into him, which resulted in having a tyre on a guard.

"When I got to Turn 8 at about 50 or 60 percent race pace something in the left front gave way, I think it was either a flat tyre or broken steering and unfortunately I just couldn't get around the corner and ended up making heavy contact with the wall.

"It's pretty hard to tell what damage there really is. One of the goals for the weekend was to finish with a clean car.

"It is pretty disappointing for the guys, hopefully there are not too many late nights ahead and we can get the car sorted for the Grand Prix."

Dale Wood - #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore

"I just caught the wall on the exit a bit and over-corrected and then collected the wall on the other side," said Wood.

"It was a real shame, the car was a handful for the entire race and it was very much a learning experience for me.

"It was my first learning experience for the year and now I look to build on it for the remainder of the year.

"Now we've got to use every opportunity now to make the most of what we've got -- beginning next weekend at the Grand Prix."
