Trying times for Triple F in Townsville

Triple F Racing experienced a tough weekend in North Queensland, where the team were left scratching their heads as to why they weren't where they should have been on the grid.

Dean's FG Falcon struggled for outright pace through practice and qualifying which put him off 25th position for Race 14 of the V8 Supercar Championship. Despite usually being very strong on the Dunlop soft tyres, Dean was unable to capitalise on the gain from the tyre as the pit stop strategy that he had favoured a safety car period for maximum benefit. However, Dean did make ground through the race to take the chequered flag in 20th position.

The weekend further cemented the competiveness of the series with the likes of Shane Van Gisbergen starting well down the grid on the back of a race win in Darwin.

After another tough qualifying session on Sunday, Dean was forced out of the race prematurely due to a sensor failure in the gearbox of the #12 car.

"Overall it was just another testing weekend for us as a team, we're not the only ones finding it tough out there but it's definitely not where we want to be," Dean commented.

"We have a test day at Queensland Raceway on August 4, which should put us in good stead before the next round of the Championship there in 5 weeks time.

"Having made the Top 10 Shootout at the track last year, we hope that this can be the turning point for our season and that we can bring home another positive result at our home track."

The next round is the Coates Hire Ipswich 400 from 19-21 August 2011.
