Bathurst 1000: David Wall Friday notes

David Wall has had a day of mixed results at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 with practice and qualifying in his Team McGrath V8 Supercar, and qualifying for the Australian GT series in his Porsche.

First up for David was V8 Supercar practice. The half an hour session was interrupted by Andrew Fisher's accident at the top of the mountain that brought out the red flag. David was able to only complete a few fast laps in the session, but every lap around Bathurst before the main race is important.

Next up for David was qualifying for the Australian GT series.

David, who is currently leading the championship by 68.5 points, was again forced to work around the increased parity adjustments that were made to the performance of his PR Technology Racing Porsche GT3 Cup S.

In the early Australian GT sessions, David and the team were really struggling with the extra restrictions made to the car. They were able to improve the car between the sessions and were relatively happy with how the car was handling during qualifying.

David was able to make up over two secinds from yesterday's practice session to today's qualifying session.

"I am happy to have qualified in 2nd place for tomorrow's first race and am feeling good in the car," said David after qualifying.

"We may not have the outright speed to beat some of the cars around us, but I am confident we will be in a good position during the race."

Later David was back in the Team McGrath V8 Supercar to qualify the #333 entry he is sharing with Leanne Tander in the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 on Sunday.

During the qualifying sessions, David was again able to shave significant time off his best lap time in the earlier practice sessions, but was still struggling to match the lap times of the drivers in the newer cars.

"I am relatively happy with how the session went. I think we have a great race car and I am hoping for a strong run on Sunday," said David after qualifying.

"I am also much more comfortable in the car than I was at Phillip Island. I am hoping to avoid the pain I had there and that I am able to push hard throughout the race.

"Today has been a particularly busy day swapping between my Porsche and the Team McGrath V8 Supercar, not to mention driver appearances and autograph signing sessions!

"Fortunately the two cars are very different, even down to the Porsche being left hand drive and the V8 being right hand drive, so it isn't easy to confuse the two!"

Race one of the Australian GT series this weekend is at 8am Saturday morning, with race two at 11:50am. V8 Supercar practice will be held at 10am.
