The three BJR cars will all carry simple throwback liveries honouring different stages of Beechey’s career.
Tim Blanchard’s CoolDrive-backed Commodore will be painted in the same blue that adorned Beechey’s Mustang when he won the 1965 Australian Touring Car Championship at Sandown.
The famous yellow HT GTS 350 Monaro that took Beechey to the 1970 ATCC title is the inspiration for Tim Slade’s Commodore, which will also swap #14 for #75 to celebrate primary sponsor Freightliner’s 75 years in the trucking industry.
Nick Percat’s car will be backed by Mongrel Boots for the first of three long-distance races, with the back colour scheme reminiscent of the Chevy Nova that Beechey raced in 1967.
“There’s a photo of me as a youngster sitting on the guard of the Chevy Nova with Norm and Peter Manton,” said team boss Brad Jones.
“I believe all motorsport fans have a fond memory like that, and that’s certainly one of mine.
“This tribute to Norm is something [co-owner] Kim [Jones] and I are proud of, and hopefully it brings back a lot of classic memories of those ATCC glory days for the fans, as it does for us.
“Norm and his wife Marg were friends of our parents, as were many competitors from the 70s, so it makes the tribute a very personal one for us.”
Beechey added that he’s honoured to have his career celebrated by the Jones squad.
“I think the Supercars ‘Retro Round’ is a great throwback to the early days of Touring Car racing in Australia,” he said.
“I’m honoured that the Jones Brothers are representing some of my liveries and they have done a great job bringing them to life on the modern-day Supercar.
“It will be a real thrill to see them on track, and hopefully on the podium at the end of the 500.”
