The Queensland-based Tekno squad has been in a race against time ever since Davison was caught up in the Saturday melee in Tasmania, a head-on collision with Rick Kelly’s spinning Nissan leaving Davison in hospital and his Commodore badly damaged.
The Tekno crew has worked around the clock since the car arrived back at base, missing out on an Easter break as they scrambled to repair the car in time to get it back down to Melbourne this week.
In a video posted on Instagram, Davison today confirmed that the rebuild is on course to be completed in time for Phillip Island – thanks to a lot of hard work from the team.
“I’ve come in to Tekno, and the team here are absolutely on fire,” he said.
“Inspiring is probably the only word I can come up with. They have’t been home over the Easter break, haven’t seen their families, they literally haven’t slept.
“The car got back from the chassis place PACE Innovations about 12 Hours ago, it’s nearly a new chassis front and rear.
“Everyone has come together – it gives me goosebumps to see the attitude of everyone here. I can’t thank them enough.”
In terms of his own fitness, Davison made it clear that he plans to be back in the car this weekend despite ongoing discomfort from a broken right-sided transverse process.
“From my point of view it’s been rough week, but I’ve been pushing really hard on my rehab and it hasn’t even crossed my mind that I won’t be in the car in four days time,” he added.
“I’m still pretty sore, but I’ve got to do it. I’ve got to do it for the team.”
