Eaton set for Walkinshaw Supercars evaluation
Abbie Eaton will kickstart her Supercars testing programme with an evaluation day with Walkinshaw Andretti United at Winton tomorrow.
Eaton, of The Grand Tour fame, is currently down under to work on a Super2 programme for 2019, her trip starting with a visit to the Newcastle 500 ahead of an already-confirmed test with Matt Stone Racing at Queensland Raceway.
She'll get her first taste of a Supercar before the MSR test, however, with WAU confirming it will run Eaton in a Super2-spec VF Commodore during an evaluation at Winton tomorrow.
Eaton will be one of two Supercars rookies to sample the Holden, the other Porsche Motorsport Junior Programme Shootout winner Jaxon Evans.
“It’s extremely exciting for our business to be able to have two young drivers of Jaxon and Abbie’s calibre in the car for an evaluation day,” said co-team principal Bruce Stewart.
“Jaxon is someone we know well. We are delighted for him and the opportunity he has with the Porsche Motorsport programme in Europe, but would love to have him in a car if the opportunity ever arises, calendar permitting.
“Abbie has quickly become a friend of the team, and we were lucky enough to have her in the garage with us at Newcastle.
“We know she is exploring her options for the 2019 season, but it’s fantastic that we can provide the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Supercar for the first time. There’s no denying her ability."
WAU currently doesn't field cars in the second-tier Super2 series, with its Supercars programme focussed on its main game entries for James Courtney and Scott Pye.
