Erebus Motorsport will step up its commitment to the V8 Utes category in 2014, bringing its franchise in house and joining forces with Cliff Campbell’s South Coast Racing.

The Erebus-owned Holden Ute will be campaigned by a yet to be named driver. The two Ute operation will be housed in Erebus Motorsport’s Melbourne base and overseen by Erebus General Manager - Motorsport, Barry Ryan.

South Coast Racing’s staff and the Bathurst 12 Hour-winning Erebus GT technical crew will spanner both vehicles.

Whilst owning a V8 Utes franchise for some time, Erebus Motorsport has had it under lease while observing the category and building the assets required to roll out a successful program with the aim of setting a new standard in the V8 Utes category.

The V8 Utes program expands Erebus Motorsport’s commitment to motorsport - which also includes a pair of Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG V8 Supercars and two AMG Customer Sports SLS AMG GT3 Gullwings.

Erebus Motorsport backed the Auto One V8 Utes Rookie of the Year prize in 2013, offering the chance for the Rookie to test one of Erebus Motorsport's race vehicles - either an E63 AMG V8 Supercar or the SLS AMG GT3.

That prize was taken out by 21-year-old Victorian, Elliot Barbour.

Chief Executive Officer of Erebus Motorsport, Ryan Maddison:

“A full-blown V8 Ute program may seem an odd choice for an organisation like Erebus Motorsport that has aligned itself so closely with the AMG Customer Sports brand, however nothing could be further from the truth.

“Erebus Motorsport is built on a premise of providing opportunities in racing and connecting with fans at all levels whether in Australia or internationally. In Australia you cannot get more connected with the grass roots fans than being involved in V8 Supercars and the V8 Utes Series.

“This is an exciting development for us and we look forward to the future of this program.”

Erebus Motorsport General Manager, Motorsport - Barry Ryan - explained the decision to bring the program in-house:

“The establishment of the Melbourne workshop by Erebus Motorsport always had the aim of expanding the organisation’s reach across several forms of motorsport.

“We’ve used this year to further assess the V8 Utes and get a better feel for how the Series operates.

“We have had a great association with Stephen White and Whitedog Racing this year and the negotiations between us are continuing for Stephen to possibly step into the Erebus V8 Ute.

“Ultimately, we’re looking to establish a properly structured operation to deliver the best competitive outcomes for our sponsor partners and the other stakeholders involved, whether that is with two or even three Utes working within that framework.”
