Scoring his first V8 Supercar pole position was no half measure for Lockwood Racing's Fabian Coulthard today after he gapped the field by more than 0.3s at Albert Park.

The car had been fast throughout the day's two practice sessions but Coulthard was unsure of its outright pace until the 30-minute qualifying session, saying the changing circuit made it hard to gauge relative performance.

Coulthard is now looking to back up the personal best with another, a race win, in tomorrow's 12-lap spectacle, which starts at 11am.

Fabian Coulthard, Lockwood Racing "The car's had good speed no matter what, hard or soft tyres, and today I just ragged it but both BJR cars were capable.

"I've always said qualifying is the easiest time to pass cars. The category is so even, it's very hard to pass in the race so I'm pretty happy to have clear track ahead of me tomorrow. I just want a solid result now.

"It's funny, because just before qualifying we were saying how bad our cars feel but they can't be too bad relative to the rest! It's just degrees of how much you're suffering and what you're suffering from. The track was still a bit green today but the F1 cars will put rubber down tomorrow and the cars will perform differently."
