Good first hit out for Bright

It was a trouble-free first competitive run for the brand new Team BOC VF Commodore at the Australian Grand Prix today, with Jason Bright qualifying 9th for tomorrow's first race.

After the accident at the Clipsal 500, the team had just 10 days to build a brand new car - which they duly achieved in just eight hectic days.

Following a brief debut test run earlier in the week, the Team BOC Commodore performed faultlessly in practice and qualifying.

While pleased with his final position, Bright felt there was more pace in the car to exploit in tomorrow's races.

Nissan's Michael Caruso won pole with Shane Van Gisbergen second in the Tekno Holden and Scott Mclaughlan's Volvo third.

Jason Bright:

"I'm pretty happy. I didn't really nail a good lap there. If I finished my best lap it could have got me to fourth or fifth. We're in the ballpark though, the tyres are only good for one lap and we did the fastest time on the second so I think we should be a couple of rows up but all in all the car had a nice little debut and we're good to go tomorrow. It's hard to pass at the start of the race but once the tyres go off it becomes pretty easy. As long as we have some good green running I think we'll move up in the race for sure."

The Team BOC Commodore was adorned with more than 1500 supporter names on the rear wing following a successful Facebook campaign during the construction of the new car.

The V8 Supercars have two 30 minute Grand Prix support races tomorrow. The first at 11:05 and the second at 2:25. The second race will have it's starting grid determined by the results of the first race.
