Just one hour short for Team BOC

Miracles were in short supply at Team BOC today despite a mammoth 24-hour effort from the entire crew to fix the car before today's 102-lap race at the Gold Coast.

The repairs were within one hour of being complete when the pit lane opened, adding to the stress of fixing approximately $100k damage to the car including the front splitter, left and right rails, radiator, air induction, vents and all the major componentry.

Andrew Jones, who collided with the tyre barriers during yesterday's third practice session, pitched in along with main driver Jason Bright to try and get the car back on track this afternoon but the damage was too extensive.

The car will be back on track for tomorrow's qualifying at 10.55am.

Brad Jones, Team BOC Co-Owner: "We were short by maybe an hour, which is painful. It was just five minutes here and there, which all added up. It's very disappointing.

"I think one of the issues was when they got it back to the workshop last night it was even more damaged than we thought and then the problem is that when you're putting it together there are no holes drilled in the panels so it's much more difficult than just bolting a nut in.

"It wasn't about racing this afternoon. It was about making sure it was alright for tomorrow. Everyone has chipped in to try and get us there and I'm confident it will be just like it was when Jason was driving it on Friday morning but it would have been good to get a couple of laps in."
