Mostert fined $3000 for victory burnout

After winning a championship race for the first time since his horror qualifying smash at Bathurst in 2015, Mostert celebrated with a burnout in the Turn 1 run-off area.

But his efforts have netted him a hefty fine, teams having been instructed earlier in the weekend that ‘static’ burnouts weren’t allowed.

‘Following the Race, the DRD (Deputy Race Director) conducted an investigation into an allegation that the Driver of Car #55, Chaz Mostert, disobeyed the End of Race Procedure by performing a static burnout,’ read the stewards' report.

‘Following an admission to the breach, the Stewards imposed a Fine of $3,000, of which $2,000 is suspended until 31/12/17.’

An incident involving Simona de Silvestro and Scott McLaughlin was also investigated: ‘The DRD conducted an investigation into an Incident during the final lap of Race 6 when Car #78, Simona de Silvestro, was alleged to have blocked and failed to give racing room to Car #17, Scott McLaughlin in breach of the Code of Driving Conduct.

‘The DRD determined no breach of the Rules had been committed by the Driver of Car #78 and that the matter did not warrant referral to the Stewards.’

No driver was found at fault for the Lap 1 scuffle that saw Will Davison end up beached on the exit of Southern Loop.
