After months of speculation, it is now confirmed that Nissan will continue in Supercars for at least the next two years.
The new deal includes continuing with the Altima package, complete with its V8 engine, for 2017 and 2018. Michael Caruso has also be re-signed, and will continue to race the #23 until at least the end of the ’18 season. The programme will continue to be run by Kelly Racing.
Nissan’s Australian programme won’t just include Supercars, either. Fresh off the back of announcing a two-race Australian GT Championship assault later this year, Nissan has now confirmed it will run a full AGT programme for 2017.
The intention is for GT Academy winner Matt Simmons to race the Australian-based GT-R next season, although that is subject to potential European commitments.
Nissan will also expand on its Bathurst 12 Hour programme, with plans to run two GT-Rs at the fast-growing enduro next February.
“Motorsport is in the DNA of Nissan, both here in Australia and globally,” said Nissan Australia’s Managing Director and CEO Richard Emery.
“When Nissan first opened for business in Australia in 1966, one of the first things we did was to go motor racing. Our motorsport program is a way for us to show people what the Nissan brand stands for – through the excitement of our race cars and the innovative and inclusive nature of our fan activations.”
