Tickford, a famous Ford-related name revived by Prodrive race team boss Tim Edwards and PRA part-owner Rod Nash last year, kick started its business with a line of tuned Ford Ranger utes.
It has now confirmed that it will put two tuned Mustangs packages on the market – one for the V8-powered GT and one for the EcoBoost model – creating a direct link between PRA and the Mustang bodyshape.
The Tickford-tuned Mustang GT is set to pump out 360kW of grunt and 585Nm of torque from its five-litre V8 engine, the AUD$6990 upgrade including cold air intake, an ECU recalibration, Tickford-developed quad catback exhaust, bespoke rear diffuser, and Tickford-enhanced branding.
The Tickford EcoBoost model will make 270kW of power and 540Nm of torque through the 2.3-litre turbo engine, the package including the same features and price tag as for the GT model.
“Mustang owners are real vehicle enthusiasts so we wanted to ensure Tickford’s first release of personalisation options captured their enjoyment of driving and enhanced it,” said Tickford Director Performance Parts Tony Harris.
“Our aim was to not only deliver generous increases in power and torque, but also create a unique exhaust note which was strong and deep, yet was suitable for daily driving as well.”
The news is likely to accelerate the assessment of the Mustang as a viable replacement for the FG X in Supercars, a process that’s already underway as revealed by Motorsport.com late last year, which would give PRA a better platform on which to market the Tickford business through motorsport.
It is possible that the two Ford teams, PRA and DJR Team Penske, could be racing Mustangs in Supercars as soon as 2018.
