Prodrive Supercars squad switches to Tickford name

Prodrive Racing Australia will be known as Tickford Racing from the end of this year, in a move to align the race team with its new road car tuning arm.

The Melbourne-based team will make the switch to tighten the relationship between the four-car Supercars programme and the Tickford tuning business, which is owned and run by PRA co-owner Rod Nash and team manager Tim Edwards.

“We’ve been considering the possibility of changing the team’s name for some time and I am pleased to announce that we’ll take on the Tickford Racing name for 2018 and beyond,” confirmed Nash.

“The change creates a strong overall link between our rapidly growing performance road car business and our racing division. The new logo provides a very obvious brand identity for Tickford both on the race track and on the road.

“We were conscious of how another name change might be perceived by our fans and members given all the success we’ve had under the PRA banner with championships in the main game and Super2 plus Bathurst success.”

Edwards added: “Under our current structure with PRA and Tickford it can be a little confusing as to how the two entities are linked and their relevance to each other. With the switch to Tickford Racing that evaporates and creates new opportunities.

“We can potentially create Tickford Racing special edition vehicles, and more easily use our expertise across both businesses and represent all our interests more efficiently."

The Tickford name is a significant one in Ford's Australian history, having been used by Ford on its customised road cars between the early 1990s and early 2000s. Glen Seton's factory Ford Supercars team also ran under the Ford Tickford Banner between 1999 and 2001, before it was taken over by Prodrive and re-branded as Ford Performance Racing.

FPR existed until the end of the 2014 season when Ford began its withdrawal from Supercars as a full-blown manufacturer, at which point the team took on the PRA moniker.

According to Nash, blue has been retained in the new Tickford Racing branding as a nod to history of both the team and the Tickford name.

“We made sure we kept blue in our logo as we know the fans love it. They want to see blue in our logo and on the grid and it nicely provides a constant link to our past and what we represent,” Nash explained.

“Tickford Racing adopts the modern interpretation of the Tickford logo like our automotive business has and we retain the same drivers and personnel that have made us so successful. I’d like to think it’s a win for everyone.”

Launched last year, the new Tickford tuning arm specialises in customising Ford's Mustang and Ranger models.

Earlier this year it made a splash with the introduction of the Tickford Bathurst '77 Special.
