The pair clashed on the opening lap of yesterday's race, Coulthard running McLaughlin off the track at Turn 5.
McLaughlin then took a controversial shortcut to rejoin in third place, before going on to win the race.
Coulthard, who later admitted fault, dropped to the back of the field before copping a 15s penalty for the contact.
Despite being the eve of the Indy 500, the incident still caught team owner Roger Penske's attention.
According to McLaughlin the pair received an email from Penske advising against any further friendly fire, which was made more relevant when they locked out the front row for today's second race.
As it turned out there was no repeat of Saturday's antics, the pair emerging from Lap 1 unscathed before McLaughlin took a well-crafted win.
"We got an email from Roger basically telling us 'don't hit each other'," McLaughlin told the Supercars Trackside TV programme.
"Team points are vital. It was pretty tight, we got through and tried to build a gap as best as I could.
"That first stint I was pushing so hard to try and have safety, when you pull out of the pits you don't have to fight anyone.
"It was a really good race."
The straightforward win wasn't without some drama for McLaughlin, though, he explained he was suffering with an arm cramp during the race.
I actually got a little bit of cramp in the race," he said.
"I was smacking it down the straight, trying to get it to wake up.
"It's hard, you don't get a break, you're constantly plucking gears, it's crazy."
