JONES: RICHARDS "STILL PART OF IT"

A text message from Jason Richards to stand-in driver Andrew Jones was encouragement for the entire Team BOC crew at Sandown today.

Jones, who replaces Richards whilst he is treated for an abdominal tumor, has co-driven with the Kiwi for three of the last four rounds.

Car set-up was always Richards' domain, however, and when BJR team-mate Jason Bright was side-lined by today's high-speed crash, Jones was left lacking guidance and finished practice 26th fastest.

Qualifying for tomorrow's 100km race starts at 11.20am.

"It's a bizarre feeling to be at the circuit; I feel like I should be at home, cheering on Jase and Brighty from the couch.

"I got a text from JR earlier today, which was nice because I'm sure he's got other things to think about at the moment. He was offering some advice on things; he's still a part of the place that's for sure.

"Brighty's accident didn't help things for me today. At the last few rounds I just got in the car and followed JR's lead. He set it up and I just drove it. This round I needed to follow Brighty a bit more and his incident meant we didn't have his experience and direction to depend on."
