Slade focussed on Supercheap future

Slade signed a two-year deal with Walkinshaw Racing at the end of 2013, and since the beginning of 2014 has driven a Clayton-run Commodore backed by automotive retail giants Supercheap Auto.

With the clock now running down on his current deal, Slade is one of the handful of drivers officially on the market for the 2016 season, joining Fabian Coulthard, David Reynolds, and James Moffat as potential front-running drivers that are out of contract.

According to Slade, it’s very early days in terms of sorting his plans for 2016 and beyond; however, he told Motorsport.com that his first priority is continuing his relationship with Supercheap.

“Nothing has really progressed at this stage, nothing is really happening yet,” Slade said.

“First and foremost I’d like to continue my relationship with Supercheap.

“They’ve shown faith in me. When I was coming to the end of my deal at Erebus I went and saw those guys, and we went from there.

“So I have to consider where they are at – number one their position in the sport in general, and number two their position with the team.

“If they’re happy, then I’m happy, basically.”

The Tekno seat set to be vacated by Shane van Gisbergen at the end of the season continues to be the key to the silly season, while there will potentially be seats available at Prodrive Racing Australia, Brad Jones Racing, Nissan Motorsport, and DJR Team Penske depending on how the driver market shakes out.
