WOOD ON THE RIGHT TRACK AT SYMMONS PLAINS

Hi-Tec Oils Racing driver Dale Wood is on the right track after practice for the Falken Tasmania Challenge at Symmons Plains Raceway in Launceston today.

Wood completed plenty of track time in all three segments of practice held today to set himself for his first V8 Supercar event at the 2.4 kilometre circuit.

The V8 rookie was 24th fastest and 29th fastest in the two major segments of qualifying, after driving the #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore to 17th fastest in the co-driver practice session earlier in the day.

Greg Murphy was fastest in practice today ahead of Lee Holdsworth and Mark Winterbottom.

Elimination-format qualifying, the top 10 shootout and the opening race of the weekend will be held tomorrow, while a further qualifying session and longer distance race will be staged on Sunday.

WHAT DALE HAD TO SAY ...

Dale Wood - #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore:

"Leg two of practice was really good for the Hi-Tec Oils crew," said Wood.

"Our Commodore was quite good and we ended up doing quite a few laps. The balance felt quite good and I thought we had a fair bit to gain in the third session from putting a better set of tyres on.

"But in the end we actually went backwards slightly. I'm not sure if we got a bad set of tyres there. I didn't seem to be able to get the run out of the hairpin that we needed and that was costing us a fair bit of time.

"Overall it was a reasonably good day and we've got a lot to areas we are going to work on to make it even better for tomorrow."
