It was a straightforward race for the Prodrive Racing Australia driver, who comfortably led the field into turn one after starting from pole. He quickly established a gap, helped by having Triple Eight driver Jamie Whincup inadvertently play rear gunner, holding up the field while Winterbottom skipped into the distance.
By mid-race distance it was clear Winterbottom wouldn’t be caught, with the Race 7 winner ultimately cruised to his second victory of the day by 2.9s.
The best of the racing happened behind the winner, with Whincup having to fight hard to hold off Fabian Coulthard and Chaz Mostert. The Triple Eight driver did manage to nab second place, despite the two cars behind him showing more signs of pace in the closing laps.
Craig Lowndes managed to hold on to the pack that was scrapping over second place, but ultimately had to settle for fifth.
James Courtney and David Reynolds both banked their second top-10 finishes of the day with sixth and seventh respectively, while Rick Kelly and Will Davison fought hard over eighth, the Nissan driver narrowly winning out.
Meanwhile, it was a shocking race for Volvo. David Wall could manage just 22nd, while Scott McLaughlin retired mid-race after running near the back.
It was also a shocker for Shane van Gisbergen. After hinting pre-race that he would be running old tyres, the Kiwi struggled at the back of the field, ultimately finishing last after a late off.
