Daytona International Speedway To Host Porsche Rennsport Reunion II

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (Aug. 12, 2003) - Daytona International Speedway, the "World Center of Racing," has added yet another international racing event to its already busy racing calendar.

Porsche Cars North America, in conjunction with Brian Redman and his Intercontinental Events, Inc., announced that the Porsche Rennsport Reunion II will be held on April 23-25, 2004, at historic Daytona International Speedway.

The first Porsche Rennsport Reunion was held in Lime Rock Park in Connecticut in 2001 with more than 50 years of history-making Porsche race cars and drivers in attendance. Following that event, Porsche promised to hold a second event in three years time.

Porsche Cars North America President and CEO Peter Schwarzenbauer will fulfill that promise at Daytona International Speedway because of Porsche's rich history at the legendary track, which was recently named by the Travel Channel as one of the "World's Best Places" to watch a sporting event.

"Our first win in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 1968 was not only an important part of Porsche's U.S. racing heritage, but it was significant for auto racing worldwide," said Schwarzenbauer. "It marked the first Porsche overall victory in an international 24 hour sports car endurance race."

Porsche-powered cars have gone on to score a record 20 total overall victories in the Rolex 24 at Daytona including this year's win by the Racers Group Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

"Porsche wants to share the memories of its numerous worldwide racing successes with the Porsche race fans and owners who have supported our brand over the years by presenting the cars and drivers that made it happen," Schwarzenbauer added. "Porsche Rennsport Reunion II provides us with the perfect opportunity."

"With that, it's only natural that the two would come together for such an exciting event as the Porsche Rennsport Reunion II. Porsche Rennsport Reunion II will bring together an unprecedented gathering of significant Porsche vintage racecars owned by private collectors, Porsche Club racers, former Porsche factory drivers and a selection of historic cars from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. It will feature a three-day program of on-track competition plus a concours d'elegance, which will be open to the event's participants by invitation. In addition, special activities are planned commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Porsche 356 and Porsche 550 Spyder, and the 40th Anniversary of the Porsche 911.
