It was a day for double wins at the Daimler/Chrysler Vodacom Roadshow meeting at the historic Mercedes-Benz East London Grand Prix circuit over the weekend.

All three events on the programme produced double wins on a day that delivered some interesting racing. Sharing the center stage were events for Vodacom Sports Prototypes, Formula GTi and Formula Vee with a good turnout, in particular from the Vodacom brigade with veteran Alan Eve stealing the show.

Eve set the fastest time in qualifying and then proceeded to post a pair of comfortable wins. In race one Eve cruised home around 12 seconds ahead of Tony Troskie who held off Neil Lobb in a terrific finish. Fourth and fifth were James Kennerley and George Ferreira who were involved in another terrific scrap with less than a car between the pair at the finish.

Race two again saw Eve finish comfortably ahead of Troskie. This time the gap was just over 10 seconds with Ferreira in third place ahead of Lobb and Kennerley.

There was a disappointing turnout for the Formula GTi event which saw Middelberg driver Marco da Cunha score a brace of wins. Like Eve in the Vodacom Sports Prototype category, da Cunha took pole position and then dominated both heats.

In the first race da Cunha had three seconds to spare on Barry Ingle with Miguel Rocha, Paulo da Cunha and Dale Knez third, fourth and fifth. Less than half a second separated Ingle, Rocha and da Cunha in another desperate finish.

Race two saw da Cunha increase the gap to five second ahead of Ingle who this time had a little breathing space. Paolo da Cunha, in third place, was 10 seconds behind Ingle this time around with Rocha a further four seconds in arrears. Fifth place went to Carlos Sator who was another 17 seconds adrift.

Alan Holm took pole position in the Formula Vee event, but then faded from the picture with a fifth and a non-finish. Both wins went to Trevor Smith who held off Dennis Johns by two second margins in both races.

Darren Murphy was third in heat one, less than half a second behind Johns, with David Vieringa third in the second race. Also in the points in heat one were Vieringa, Holm and Lee Thompson with Thompson and Jody and Kyle Robertson picking up points in race two.
