Watkins Glen, NY (September 9, 1999) -- NASCAR Winston Cup Series superstar and 1999 Legend of The Glen, Geoffrey Bodine, will be signing autographs for fans attending the Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, September 12. "I'm very pleased to be chosen as a Legend of The Glen and I can't wait to come up and see everyone," said Chemung, NY, native Geoffrey Bodine. "I'm in awe to be thought of with some of those drivers that I watched race at Watkins Glen when I was young. The win at Watkins Glen in '96 was one of the most meaningful wins of my career because it's close to my family and home." Bodine is appearing at the track to take part in a ceremony honoring him as the fan's choice in the Legends of The Glen promotion. Bodine will be honored with the dedication of a memorial on track property and will sign autographs for fans at the Watkins Glen Pyramid souvenir store at 12:30 p.m. Following on-track activity on Sunday afternoon, he will be presenting the new Watkins Glen Motor Racing Research Library with an historical document from his '96 win at Watkins Glen International. The presentation of Bodine's materials marks the start of the Library's special effort to acquire materials relating to local racing, the Bodine family, and stock car documentation. Geoffrey Bodine won the 1996 Bud at The Glen NASCAR Winston Cup Series race, the 1987 International Race Of Champions (IROC) finale at Watkins Glen, and the 1986 Camel Continental GTO class with Jack Baldwin. The Legends of The Glen started in 1998 as a way to honor the greatest drivers in Watkins Glen history. Last year's winners were honorary inductee Cameron Argetsinger, the founder of American road racing, fan choice Mark Martin, NASCAR Winston Cup driver and three-time winner at The Glen, and the media's selection, Jackie Stewart, a 3-time Formula One World Champion. Balloting for the media's selection for the 1999 Legends of The Glen program is expected to be completed by the Bosch Sports Car Oktoberfest weekend, Oct. 1 - 3. Tickets for the upcoming Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix are now available. For ticket, camping or additional information contact the Watkins Glen ticket office at 607-535-2481 or log onto The Glen's official Website at www.theglen.com .
