Historic IMS Bricks and Contract on Display Thursday, Dec. 17; Display Marks 100th Anniversary of Iconic Track Surface
Several important pieces of Indianapolis Motor Speedway history -- bricks from the racing surface and the contract between IMS and Wabash Clay Company for purchase the bricks in September 1909 -- will be on display in the IMS Administration Building lobby from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17.
The final, ceremonial brick was laid in place Dec. 17, 1909, completing the track repaving which gave IMS its iconic nickname, "The Brickyard." To commemorate the important day in IMS history, fans are invited to view and take photos of the pieces on display.
IMS officials will be available for interviews.
The lobby display is part of a larger promotion: On Dec. 17 only, any customer that places a new order for four reserved-seat Race Day tickets for any IMS event in 2010 will receive a replica brick contract and a casing of brick pieces.
