Liz Halliday Halliday revels in Goodwood Revival debut
Liz Halliday is hoping to make the Goodwood Revival a regular fixture on her annual sporting calendar after thriving in the unique atmosphere during her first weekend at the world's most popular historic race meeting.
As well as the racing and a stunning array of beautifully-prepared vintage automobiles, the Revival is staged entirely in the nostalgic time capsule of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s with competitors and spectators donning period clothing and numerous other events taking place off-track.
For dual sportswoman Halliday, who combines her careers in motorsport and 3 Day Eventing, the experience was an unforgettable one, particularly as she got the opportunity to race her father's rare Alfa Romeo Guilietta SZ Coda Tronca in the prestigious Fordwater Trophy race.
A strong performance by the California-born, British-based Halliday saw her finish 12th overall around the notoriously challenging 2.4-mile circuit, with the John Danby Racing-prepared car running perfectly throughout.
"The whole weekend was a fantastic experience," said Halliday. "The car ran well in the race and I had a few guys to fight with on my way to a decent result. A big thank you to everyone at John Danby Racing for their efforts as the car was trouble-free and I think it finished as far up the grid as was possible with the speed differentials in the class.
Thank you also to my uncle, Tom Waugh, who made the effort to fly out from California to give us support and help document the weekend with his fantastic photos!
"The atmosphere at Goodwood is unique and I really enjoyed the fact that everyone joins in by dressing up. Even the shops sell period groceries and the support vehicles are all from the 50s and 60s era too.
"I also really like the actual circuit. It's very quick with lots of camber changes and a good variety of difficult corners which makes it an exciting track to drive.
"Having been at the Monza Coppa Intereuropa, Silverstone Classic and Oulton Park Gold Cup this year I've really got a taste for historic motorsport and competing at the Goodwood Revival was the pinnacle of a great spell of races. I definitely hope to return next year and many more times after that!"
