National Sprint Car Hall Of Fame inductions

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (June 4, 2001) - Drivers Brad Doty of Apple Creek (Ohio), Eddie Leavitt of Kearney (Mo.), Don Mack of East Grand Forks (Minn.), and Dick Sutcliffe of Kansas City (Mo.), mechanics Davey Brown of Dover (Pa.) and Gary Stanton of Nicholasville (Kty.), and announcer Jack Miller of Odessa (Fla.) took center stage Saturday afternoon as they were officially inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville. Co-emcees Bill Hill and Dave Argabright, and 275 guests enjoyed the three- hour ceremony which honored the exceptional careers of twelve inductees. Drivers Emmett "Buzz" Barton of Kingston (Okla.), Bob Hogle of Phelan (Calif.) and owner Bob Estes of Los Angeles (Calif.) were unable to attend the affair due to personal reasons. Their awards were accepted by past Hall of Fame inductees Al "Cotton" Farmer and Jimmy Oskie, and son Dale Estes, respectively.

Also present this weekend to accept awards on behalf of their deceased relatives were wife Helen Martin, daughter Patty, and grandson Donny, for the late promoter Don Martin, and children Beverly, Duane, Janice and Judy for their late father, driver Albert "Buddy" Taylor.

National Sprint Car Hall of Famers who were present were Rollie Beale, Tom Bigelow, Jerry Blundy, Willie Davis, Al "Cotton" Farmer, Rick Ferkel, Ray Lee Goodwin, Bill Hill, Walt James, Jimmy Oskie, Lynn Paxton, "Speedy" Bill Smith, Steve Stapp and Bob Trostle. Johnny Vance's son John, and John Gerber's son Jim, were also in attendance at the banquet, which was held on the National Sprint Car Museum's second floor. Next year's thirteenth induction weekend is tentatively scheduled for May 31-June 1-2, 2002.

The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum Foundation would like to sincerely thank the Knoxville Raceway and the Marion County Fair Association for their efforts this weekend in presenting the Goodyear Masters Classic, United States Auto Club (USAC) Coors Light Silver Bullet Series NAPA 100, and the Kin Folks/Magic Muffler 410 c.i. sprint car races.
