Redman Reminisces About Daytona In Manheim's Daytona Auto Auction Presents The Brumos Continental Historics

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.., (Nov. 3, 2001) -- One of the treats that comes with the Manheim's Daytona Auto Auction Presents The Brumos Continental Historics is the ability to rub shoulders with some of the greatest drivers and machines in the history of motorsports.

England's Brian Redman is one of those great drivers who's competing in this weekend's Historic Sportscar Racing activities on the Speedway's 3.56-mile road course. He'll be racing a Chevron B 19, a car that he has a special passion to drive.

"It's a fantastic car," Redman said. "I did all the development on them. I've raced this particular car for 18 years. In terms of what you get value for dollar, they're tremendous cars."

Redman has won the overall Rolex 24 At Daytona on two occasions. In 1976, he won the Rolex 24 with Peter Gregg and John Fitzpatrick in a BMW CSL and in 1981 he was victorious with Bobby Rahal and Bob Garretson in a Porsche Turbo.

The 64-year-old Redman, who now resides in Vero Beach, Fla., is a regular fixture at the Manheim's Daytona Auto Auction Presents The Brumos Continental Historics. He admits that Daytona International Speedway has changed quite a bit throughout the years.

"It's a good event," Redman said. "It's the season finale and it's a great turnout. I like the track. When I first raced here, there was no chicane. We used to go more than 215 mph in the Porsche 917 onto that banking."
